Healthy Cravings ☆ Chocolate Chip Cookies

artistic-dreams:

So I decided to take a break from drawing/listening to music/taking pictures/reading books and baked some cookies today. I usually slack off when it comes to baking, because I get so lazy having to buy ingredients and counting the nutrition content (hello health conscious self), but since classes start tomorrow (and my siblings requested they have this for merienda, which is an afternoon snack) I decided to bake a batch today.

Instead of using all-purpose flour, I used whole wheat flour. I also used an egg white instead of a whole egg. I experimented with this recipe I got from SparkPeople and reduced the sugar content.

I just wanted to share this so you can also have cookies without feeling too guilty. :) Enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips (I used Hershey’s)

Directions:

  1. Melt the butter in an oven for 1 minute, low.
  2. Combine melted butter and sugar together, then add egg white, baking soda and flour.
  3. Thoroughly mix until well incorporated.
  4. Drop by teaspoonfuls on a baking pan (make sure to coat with spray or a bit of butter to avoid sticking).
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, around 350°F until golden brown.
  6. Let the cookies rest for a few seconds then serve with milk or tea or eat on its own!

*Serves 24 (depends on the size, but mine came out a bit bigger than bite sized). 72 calories per cookie (based on my calculations).

Here’s the final product! It’s chewy inside and crispy on the outside.

Hope you liked my first *food* post! I think I’ll be baking more healthy stuff when I have the time.

Good luck to everyone going back to school this week! Time to work hard again!

P.S. I am in the midst of fixing my blog soon. I will probably have it on my 19th birthday, which is 10 days away. :)
